The Hidden Battles of the Heroes

"With the figure of the worker, therefore, a brother of Antaios, Atlas and Prometheus, rather than Heracles, appears – a new Titan and son of the Great Serpent, of whom the demigod only destroyed an image. Now not only the historical structures are torn away, but also the mythical and cultic presuppositions which underlie everything – the human perhaps not at all."

The hero fights the gods in metamorphosis. Where he fights that which is greater than the appearance, the signs, he enters immortal territory. The violence and risk are heightened, but not against his human character. It is in this that he enters the infinite battle, as in the heroic natures raised to formations of the sky.

The end of the gods appears in the utmost violence, with the elemental forces of world death and the creation of time. There is no higher destruction, the return of the gods to mortality is also a retreat to the oldest allies – towards the strategies of depth beneath mountains.

Here the shell of man forms as a numinous sign. That he has returned to the elements, left his body to the automatic processes so that he may fight beneath himself, form the territory around himself as a trap, indicates the primordial nature of the war. The end cannot threaten the man who has welcomed death, he sees the boundless territory of whole other worlds, universes. The maps are everywhere.
